Pathways has worked in partnership with One Big Family to set up a forum for local rough sleepers. Local agencies who work with rough sleepers meet regularly linked into the work that the Homelessness Forum does in the local area. So that rough sleepers could have a voice and contribute to these meetings, bi-monthly meetings are led by Liz (One Big Family) and Nicky (Pathways). So far there has been good attendance at the meetings and lots of ideas, suggestions and opinions have been given which have been fed back to the Task and Finish Group. Things have already started to happen and progress has been seen….information given about GPs not allowing rough sleepers to register at GP surgeries without ID has been addressed and notices sent out to GPs by the CCG reminding them of the correct procedures to follow which will allow rough sleepers to access the vital medical care that they need.
Update 1st Feb 2018…
In January 2018, Service Managers from Pathways to Independence visited both the One Big Family Winter Refuge and Medway Churches Winter Night Shelter to take referrals into our Support Accommodation projects. Both of these projects are set up to offer temporary accommodation for people that are street homeless in the winter months, within Medway. Pathways took seven referrals during these two visits and are looking to return to the night shelter during February to undertake further assessments.
