Staff and residents of the Ramsgate RISE Hub, a MHCLG funded Somewhere Safe to Stay project, set sail off the coast of Ramsgate to visit the local seal colony on a cold and blustery weekend in mid October.
Paralysing isolation can be a real factor in working with those with support needs who are homeless and have slept rough on the streets, so encouraging residents to get out and about to connect with other people and nature, is a way of promoting positive bonds and mental well being. Both staff and residents reported a great ‘feel good factor’ on their return from the trip and have recommended it to others. Working with people outside of our services is one example of the practices Pathways is keen to promote, as the organisation looks to embed new ways of supporting homeless residents.
